Charging Point Grants For Property Owners
The UK offers two types of grants to property owners installing electric vehicle (EV) charging points.
1. EV Charging point Grant
2. EV Infrastructure Grant
EV Charging Point Grant
The EV charging point grant covers up to 75% of the cost of installing smart EV charging points at domestic properties. This grant replaced the previous Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) as of April 1, 2022.
An EV charging point grant provides financial support of up to either £350 or 75% of the socket installation cost, whichever is less.
EV Infrastructure Grant
The second grant is the EV infrastructure grant, which covers the cost of installation work and building infrastructure needed to install multiple charging point sockets. This grant applies to sockets required for present and future needs and may cover wiring and posts.
The amount of the EV infrastructure grant is up to £30,000 or 75% of the work's cost, based on the number of parking spaces covered.
Applicants can receive up to 30 infrastructure grants per financial year, with each grant to be used for a different property. Both the EV charging point grant and the EV infrastructure grant can be used on the same property to further reduce the installation costs.
The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS)
The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is a program that helps eligible businesses, charities and public sector organisations with the up-front costs of purchasing and installing electric vehicle charging points.
The WCS covers up to 75% of the total cost, capped at £350 per socket and 40 sockets per applicant across all sites. Successful applicants are issued a voucher code which can be given to an OZEV-authorised commercial charging point installer, who can claim the grant from OZEV on the applicant’s behalf. The installation must be completed within 6 months of the voucher issue date.
Additional applications can be submitted for up to 40 sockets. OZEV may change the rules of the grant scheme at any time, with up to 4 weeks’ notice. However, they will honour any voucher codes issued before any changes or during the notice period.
