Introducing The Workplace Charging Scheme
Launched back in 2016, the Workplace Charging Scheme is a brand of the OZEV grant scheme which was subsequently updated in 2020 - allowing COUNTY businesses to apply for grants which help to cover the cost of installing charge points in commercial and workspace car parks for employees.
In a similar vein to the homeowner's grant, the scheme allows for up to £350 towards each charging point - with a maximum of 40 charge points allowed per business under the grant. In monetary terms, that’s the equivalent of a £14,000 saving for businesses who are looking to create and support greener commuting for their employees.
Who Can Apply?
Any COUNTY business can apply for the workplace charge scheme grant, provided they tick a few eligibility boxes. They must:
- Be a registered business, charity, or public sector organisation
- Declare a need for electric vehicle chargers, for example if employees own electric vehicles
- Be located in England, Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland
- Have off-street parking for employees
- Own the commercial property or have approval from the Landlord for EV charger installation
When Are Businesses NOT Eligible?
There are a few instances which businesses should note, which removes their eligibility for the grant. These include:
- Locations outside of the UK
- If their parking is connected to a domestic property
- If the site has already claimed under the grant scheme (even if under another company name)
- If parking is not solely dedicated to that businesses’ use
