In a surge of good news for environmental activists, all new build homes in England will - by law - have to be fitted with electric vehicle charge points from next year. The new law, which comes as the government continues to incentivise a move away from petrol and diesel cars by banning the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030, is set to boost anticipated figures of up to 145,000 new home charge points being installed every year.

The rise in new-build home charge points will also see the government continue to push a series of grants which are designed to help homeowners and workplaces install electric charge points across existing residential and commercial spaces. This is achieved through the EVHS and OZEV schemes available throughout England, including COUNTY.

What Is The EVHS?

EVHS, which stands for the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme, is a grant which gives homeowners a 75% contribution towards the cost of a single charge point and its installation. This grant is capped at £350 to include VAT.

To be eligible for this grant, homeowners must own or lease a qualifying vehicle, and they must have dedicated off-street parking for their property. Workplace grants operate differently with more information available online.
